Washington, D.C. (November 6th, 2025) – Leveling the Playing Field (LPF) has teamed up with the Greg McDonald Foundation to collect youth sports equipment in support of LPF Philadelphia and encourage youth participation in sports. The partnership includes two metal donation bins with LPF and Greg McDonald Foundation logos. These metal bins can be found at the following two locations: Princeton Day School in Princeton, New Jersey and Ice Land Skating Center in Hamilton Township, NJ.
The bins have collected over $20,000 worth of equipment since they were originally placed by LPF staff. The Princeton Day School bin has collected $13,000 worth of equipment, while the Ice Land bin has collected $8,000 worth of equipment as of October 2025. The two bins are part of an LPF network of collection bins in the Greater Philadelphia area which can be accessed to drop off new and previously unused sports equipment. This not only includes hockey equipment, such as sticks, pads, and pucks, but gear from all sports.
“This partnership is huge for LPF Philadelphia,” says Danielle Miller, LPF Philadelphia Senior Program Director. “Working with the Greg McDonald Foundation amplifies LPF’s mission to collect sports equipment and create a positive impact throughout youth sports in Philadelphia. We’re grateful for their support and hope families consider donating their gear in his honor.”
“Greg believed deeply in the power of community and in helping young athletes find their place on the ice,” says Patricia Fox-McDonald, President of the Greg McDonald Foundation. “Through this effort, his spirit lives on—every stick, helmet, or pair of skates dropped in a bin becomes part of a larger team effort to open doors for kids. This isn’t just about equipment—it’s about opportunity. By donating, we keep good gear in the game and put it into the hands of kids who might not otherwise have the chance to play. Together, we can level the playing field.”
Equipment collected from these donation bins are picked up by LPF staff, sorted at the LPF Philadelphia warehouse, and distributed to youth sports organizations in need of equipment. Since 2021, LPF Philadelphia has donated over $4M in sports equipment to youth programs.

About Leveling the Playing Field: Leveling the Playing Field is a non-profit organization which collects and re-distributes sports equipment to kids in under-resourced communities. The organization currently operates in five cities: Greater Washington D.C., Baltimore, MD, Philadelphia, PA, Buffalo, NY, and Columbus, OH. Leveling the Playing Field has donated over $20 million in sports equipment to schools, youth teams and leagues, and other non-profit organizations since 2013.
About the Greg McDonald Foundation: The Greg McDonald Foundation (GMF) launched with a mission rooted in love, legacy, and leadership, honoring the life of Greg McDonald — a devoted husband, father, and a respected figure in both professional sports and youth hockey. Greg served as Vice President of Financial Operations for the Philadelphia Eagles for 24 years and spent more than two decades as a non-parent youth hockey coach in the Philadelphia area, where he mentored countless young athletes with unmatched passion and integrity.
Greg’s life was tragically cut short on October 10, 2023, at the age of 46, just two months after being diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer — Appendiceal Cancer. In the wake of this profound loss, his family created the Greg McDonald Foundation as a way to continue his legacy and positively impact the sport and community he so deeply loved.
