Jeffrey Peters

Engineer
Board Chair

Jeff was born and raised in northwest Indiana (aka Da Region) on a steady diet of cold winters, Bears games, and a variety of sports. He earned his advanced open water SCUBA certification at the age of 15 in the murky depths of Lake Michigan. He swam competitively from age 9 to 17 in AAU swim programs and on his high school team (Go Pirates), becoming team captain during his senior year. After graduating from Florida Tech with a degree in ocean engineering in 1985, he came to DC and has worked as a naval architect and as a field engineer for the US Navy Supervisor of Salvage and Diving. Currently, Jeff works as a senior ocean systems engineer at Arion Systems. Jeff has maintained his love of sports via martial arts as both a student and instructor, and only recently was forced to retire because everyone became younger and faster than him. Biking and swimming are now his go-to sports activities.

Jeff blames his love of volunteer work on his Boy Scout experiences; among his various volunteer activities, he has delivered Meals on Wheels, was a certified diving NVSL diving judge, and served as a volunteer diver at the Baltimore Aquarium. Now, as the Board Chair for Leveling the Playing Field, he pitches in by applying his system engineering skills to LPF in order to build an efficient board structure capable of supporting LPF’s mission, ensuring LPF operates in a data-driven environment based on solid governance policy and concise metrics, and trying to control an energetic board of directors. Jeff lives in McLean, Virginia, and is the father of two fantastic sons and husband to a wonderful spouse.
