How do I run an equipment collection drive?

A:

We really appreciate when individuals or groups volunteer to collect equipment for us because 95% of our donations come from individual donors.

To run an equipment drive, please send our Resource Director, Maitlyn Healy, an email at maitlyn@levelingtheplayingfield.org. She will set up a phone call or in person meeting to figure out the required materials and best places/times to collect.

Once collectors are done with their equipment drive, they drop off their equipment at the warehouse.

What is the process for receiving equipment?

A:

The process for receiving equipment begins by filling out our grant form: https://lpfsports.wufoo.com/forms/equipment-grant/

LPF's Client Services Director will then review the application and reach out to set up a site visit. If approved after the site visit, the grantee will be invited to our warehouse to pick up necessary equipment for their program.

What condition should the equipment be in?

A:

We accept used or new equipment. Most of our inventory comes from individual families donating gently used equipment. The programs that we work with will accept equipment of any age as long as it is in serviceable condition.

As a growing organization, we are always looking to best serve our beneficiaries. We ask that any equipment donated is properly cleaned/maintained and is free of excess dirt/mold. We do not currently have a service to clean/maintain the equipment at this time.

Where will my donated equipment go?

A:

The donated equipment goes to schools and programs that work in underserved neighborhoods and serve at-risk youth. Most equipment goes to programs in the DMV area, but we will work with programs worldwide!

The best way to keep up with who we are donating to is to follow our social media accounts:

Are you approved to sign for SSL hours?

A:

Yes, we are! Please tell your children to bring their friends out, too!

Are my donations tax deductible?

A:

Yes, they are!

It is up to you to value the items you donate. We will provide you with an itemized receipt and our tax ID number.

If you make a donation after hours/over the weekend, you will need to value and inventory your items so that we can get you the proper receipt.

Do you provide financial assistance to programs?

A:

No, we do not. Our grants only provide access to our available sports equipment.

Can we mail in our equipment donations?

A:

We will accept equipment donations in the mail, provided the sender covers the cost of shipping.

Will you send equipment overseas?

A:

We will send equipment overseas, provided the shipping costs are covered.

How do you handle large item donations?

A:

We DO NOT have room for these items in our warehouse. We can, however, post your item on our grantee newsletter and connect you with a school or program that may need it. Please email a picture of the equipment along with a two sentence description of the item to ian@levelingtheplayingfield.org.
