Get Involved

Leveling the Playing Field invites individuals, businesses, schools and any other groups to volunteer with us! LPF offers a variety of opportunities to get involved and help ensure every child has the opportunity to participate in youth sports activities.

Volunteer At The Warehouse

Every day donations of sporting equipment are dropped off at our warehouse and sent out into the community. In order to sort and organize all of these donations, we rely heavily on volunteers throughout the community.

Volunteers will inventory and sort sports equipment donations from our intake bins and will help compile outgoing donations. Volunteers will also help staff maintain organization of the warehouse space by sorting through current inventory and making sure all equipment is in good condition. There is no age minimum for this opportunity.

A basic understanding of sports equipment is preferred but not required. Typical volunteer shifts last two hours but we can accommodate longer shifts. This opportunity is open to individuals and groups.

Run Your Own Collection Drive

Mitzvah Project? Eagle Scout Project? Girl Scout Troop? Or just need volunteer hours? Leveling the Playing Field relies heavily on community members to help us collect sporting equipment throughout their communities.

Volunteers can organize their own collection drives at their schools, sports leagues, churches, synagogues, neighborhoods etc. LPF will provide donation bins, marketing materials and hands-on assistance to any interested collector. Collectors will place donation bins, inventory equipment and hand out tax receipts to donors when requested. If able, volunteers will transport donated equipment from their drive to the LPF warehouse. LPF's staff is available to discuss potential collection drives over the phone

Help Us At Our Collection Drives

Every weekend LPF is out in the community collecting gear at sporting events, tournaments, school fairs and more! With limited staff, we rely on volunteers to assist us at each collection drive. Volunteers will help us empty cars, hand out tax receipts and inventory donations before placing donations into the LPF truck. 90% of the equipment LPF donates comes from individual families. As a result, it is very important that we have help so that we can run as many of these collection drives as possible. Typical volunteers shifts last two hours but longer shifts are available.

Donate Sporting Equipment

Leveling the Playing Field is open during regular business hours (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm) to accept donations of sporting equipment. If you are unable to visit us during business hours we can either make an appointment or you can drop off your donation in our metal drop box located right outside the warehouse doors. To schedule a large pickup, please contact us at

If you would like to make a drop off in Virginia we have a satellite warehouse hosted by 1800-GOT-JUNK? in Chantilly, VA. For more information on dropping off in Chantilly please CLICK HERE.

What types of equipment does LPF accept? Click on this LINK to view a comprehensive list of what LPF accepts and does not accept. Tax deductible receipts are available upon request. Please use your best judgement on the condition of equipment before donating. If you wouldn't trust your kid wearing it, neither will we!

Raise Money For LPF

As with any charity, LPF relies entirely on monetary donations to maintain our warehouse, transport equipment donations, run our collection drives and market our mission among other expenses. However, it does not take much to make a big difference for our mission. In fact, just $10 helps get one kid get off the sidelines and into the game!

Volunteers can solicit donations alongside their collection drive, organize a bake sale, raffle off an autographed piece of sports memorabilia (provided by LPF), or create their own fundraiser idea. All donations are tax deductible and donors will receive tax receipts for their contributions.
