Locations and drop off times:
If you are a prospective equipment donor, it is preferred that you bring LARGE equipment donations during business hours so we can ensure all of the equipment has space to be securely stored. Large donations are considered be either a large quantity of items (approximately an SUV full) or large items such as hockey goalie equipment or a weight bench.
You can drop off equipment at our warehouse in Silver Spring anytime. Our business hours are Monday-Friday 9AM-5PM. However, we have a bin right outside our warehouse labeled sports equipment that you can drop off equipment in anytime.
For other equipment dropoff locations, it is at the discretion of the equipment collector. We when we connect you with an a collector, you can work out a time with them. Locations: We store all of the equipment donations at our warehouse in Silver Spring. It is a huge help for us if you can bring the equipment to our warehouse. However, we have alternate locations where you can drop off equipment as well.

The 1-800-GOT-JUNK? warehouse in Chantilly VA is proud to be a collection point for Leveling the Playing Field. We are usually here 8-5 Mon-Sat. If you can send us an email (firstname.lastname@example.org ) the day before you come, and let us know the approximate time and quantity, we will make an extra effort to be here. Sometimes we are called away on a junk emergency, but not often. If we are not here, you can always leave the equipment at the garage door, we know what to do when we drive up and see it.
Our 1-800-GOT-JUNK? address is 13933 Willard Rd, Chantilly, VA 20151. Our warehouse is on the right side of Willard Road as you drive in. Look for the Kol Bio Medical Building. It's a yellow two story brick warehouse with lots of snow plows parked near the road. Our 1-800-GOT-JUNK? sign is on the big red directory at the side of the road. We are half way down the building.
Doug is my Senior Ops Manager. His phone is 571-449-7292. He also receives the emails. On the weekends, Pat is usually the Ops Manager. He also gets the emails and will respond to the same phone number
There is no cost for dropping them off. Most people are in and out of here in 5 minutes.
We also collect Crutches for Africa; including walkers, leg braces, baby strollers, elbow crutches, wheel chairs, prosthetic limbs and bike trailers (http://www.crutches4africa.org/ ) and used shoes for Souls4Soles ( https://soles4souls.org/ )
LPF also has equipment collection drives going on at events and peoples homes. If neither of the locations are convenient for you, we can look to see if there is a collection drive that is convenient for you.
Our operation mostly runs through the Greater Washington and Baltimore areas when it comes to collection and distribution. We hope to expand to consistently serve more areas for collection and distribution in the future. We encourage equipment collection drives that are not in our local scope.
Accepted Items, Condition, and Inventory:
LPF mostly donates equipment for these sports: Soccer, Baseball, Football, Basketball, Hockey, Golf, Tennis, and Lacrosse. However, we WILL accept other sports equipment as well.
Items that we do not have the capacity for or that we do not accept will be recycled.
Items that we typically do not accept include: Athletic clothing (sweatshirts, moisture wicking shirts, individual jerseys, any underwear), Football helmets, roller blades, and bicycles. We also do not accept running/cross training shoes.
We accept used or new equipment. Most of our inventory comes from individual families donating gently used equipment. The programs that we work with will accept equipment of any age as long as it is in serviceable condition. As a growing organization, we are always looking to best serve our beneficiaries. We ask that any equipment donated is properly cleaned/maintained and is free of excess dirt/mold. We do not currently have a service to clean/maintain the equipment at this time. It is up to you to value the number of items you donate as well as value them. We simply provide you a receipt with the tax ID number. We can make an inventory list upon request for donations made when staff are not present.
